We had great fun during Arts Week last week and we wanted to tell you a little bit about what we have been up to.
First, we saw an amazing assembly by Miss Pink, Mr Upfold and Mrs Donaldson. Mrs Donaldson showed us lots of different artists and told us that we would be studying Mark Rothko. We were really excited. Miss Pink introduced nonsense words and we had lots of fun with these. Mr Upfold made us sing crazy nonsense songs calls "Scat" and this made us laugh. We had great fun!.
In class we learnt how to use watercolours. We used watercolour paints to complete a colour wheel to help us decide on colours for our final artwork. We practised lots of different skills - our favourite was "splatting" although Miss Lebbern wasn't keen on the mess!. We then made nonsense creatures and named them and used our new watercolour skills to paint a background for them. We looked at the other classes work too and were very impressed.
In PE we continued with our nonsense theme and we were moving like the characteres from the "Quangle Wangle". We also made up our own nonsense moves and named them nonsense names like "loopyloodle" which was skipping in a cirle and "hyroe" which was similar to a wheelbarrow.
In English, we looked at the famous nonsense poem "Fox in Socks" by Dr Seuss. We learned some lines off by heart and put actions to them. It was so funny because the words are a real tongue twister and we kept getting mixed up!. It was very enjoyable and made us all smile.
We will let you know how the rest of our half term goes.... Watch this space!.
Year 3/4 have been very busy during the Autumn Term getting stuck into our History project - Raiders and Invaders. All sorts of exciting things have happened!. We have been dressed as Anglo-Saxons, we have completed lots of drama and we even had a real life Viking invasion in our classrooms!.
This has led to some fantastic writing. The children have written wonderful stories based on Beowulf as well as newpaper reports to try to catch some sneaky Anglo-Saxons.
Alongside Raiders and Invaders, we have also been learning to play the ukelele and trumpet. We have all become much more confident with our instruments and are looking forward to performing in front of you all in the Spring Term.
Autumn term also brought us a fantastic trip to the cinema to see The BFG by Roald Dahl. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children and they thoroughly enjoyed watching the film. They were also extremely well behaved and a credit to the school.
We are now looking forward to what the Spring Term will bring!.
